Message How does the City of Saskatoon collect curbside waste? In pickups?
No, they use garbage trucks. Garbage trucks of anywhere from 40,000 lbs to 60,000 lbs gross weight (if their routes are run efficiently). Where do these trucks weigh in at?
Don't trust my logic and expertise, go to your city's web site:
"In 2003, the Saskatoon Landfill took in approximately 122,000 tonnes of waste. Over 95,000 loads of material crossed the scale."
So, they took in about 268.4Million pounds (my math: 122,00 metric tonnes * 1000kg in a metric tonne * 2.2 pounds per kg) of garbage from 95,000 vehicles. That's over 2,825 lbs of garbage per vehicle. So, you're telling me that 95,000 different vehicles took in over 2,825 lbs of garbage each load? Can you picture little old ladies in their Toyota Camry's coming to the landfill with over a ton of garbage to unload? I realize for every Camry with 100 lbs of garbage there would be a truck with 5,650 lbs to create a mean of 2,825 lbs for 2 loads. But, what non-comercial pickup is carrying in 5,650 lbs of garbage? Think about it.
